BUTTERFLYMUSH

Nyc-based artist andrea acevedo

Andrea Acevedo, better known in the art world as Butterflymush, is a Colombian-born, American-raised, multimedia artist known for her stunning portfolio of brazen, fearless women in all their blunt, outspoken, full-frontal glory.

In a day and age where nudity often feels gratuitous and evocative of unintelligible shock value, Acevedo removes the veil, challenging society’s diluted version of female sexuality by painting the power, sincerity, and badassery that depict the beautiful women in her art as exactly who they are, and not how people want to see them – not that they would care what you think anyway.

Each Butterflymush collection is a celebration of women who consume, say, and do what they want, with complete awareness of their power and control of their bodies and minds.  They are mothers, fighters, bootstrappers and protagonists of their own stories.

Their narratives are individual, but they are a collective force.  They are the unsuspecting soldiers in women’s reclamation of a humanity where their nudity doesn’t define them.

Prior to starting her career, Acevedo studied Fine Art at Pratt Institute in New York City. An ex stripper turned SLUTMOM activist.  She now resides in New York City with her husband and two children.
